Lively discussions and creative drawings during the first workshop at the LNG Bunkering & Future Fuel Summit in Amsterdam this morning. ✍️🎨🧩 Stephen Gallagher and Claudia Beumer set the scene for the participants to identify how #ammonia, #methanol and #hydrogen relate to #LNG on several aspects. When SGMF was established in 2013, LNG was the only #alternativefuel and just as SGMF has expanded their area of expertise to all future fuels over the years, also the industry needs to explore and implement all low and zero carbon fuels to reach net zero. The lessons learned available from the LNG pathway so far can be of use when overcoming future fuels hurdles. Key take aways from this workshop: ➡️ mapping the future fuels pathway is difficult and complex ➡️the biggest challenge for all future fuels will be the human element and training. ➡️ SGMF introguides on the tables turned out to be useful tools to better understand the future fuels landscape. #WindEnergyHamburg 2024 has kicked off today! We have the key takeaways from this morning's opening ceremony for you. 👇 👇 💭 Robert Habeck, Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs, assured participants that Germany will keep track and continue accelerating the expansion of wind energy. He highlighted the country's recent successes: 27% of German electricity consumption is now covered by wind, and more than 50% by #renewables. This year alone, Germany is set to award more than 10 GW of new wind energy capacity. A record. 💭 WindEurope Chair and Nordex Group CEO Jose Luis Blanco said that the principle of "overriding public interest" (OPI) had been instrumental in speeding up German permitting of new wind farms. He called upon other EU countries to follow Germany's example and rigorously implement OPI. 💭 Tinne Van der Straeten, Belgium's Minister of Energy, stressed that Europe must expand its electricity #grids and ramp up direct #electrification to accommodate the growing amounts of electricity from wind. The current slow grid buildout was threatening Europe's decarbonisation goals and the industrial #competitiveness of the European economy, she said. 💭 ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer ensured participants that the wind energy #supplychain will deliver on the volumes required by 2030. But he insisted that Germany and Europe now need to invest in the supporting #infrastructure for the energy transition: grids, roads and bridges. RWE have gone from a niche yesterday to a key pillar of today's and tomorrow’s energy landscape as per Sven Utermöhlen CEO of RWE More than 20 years ago, RWE began the journey with offshore wind. Back then with just two installed 2-MW turbines at #Blyth. Sven said it reveals the extraordinary evolution RWE have made since then. And one thing that has definitely changed in that time is capacity. RWE Sofia project in the #UK, for example, which is now under construction, will eventually boost a capacity of 1,400 MW. Driving this growing capacity is the growing size of our wind farms and of the wind turbines themselves. Taking Sofia as an example again: Here we will have 108-metre-long rotor blades and a rotor diameter of 222 metres, whereas our Scroby Sand’s turbine blades are 40 metres long. The larger the rotor blades the greater the output. The power output is a quadratic function of the blade length, meaning if you double the length of the blades, you in fact quadruple the output. That helps us harvest the wind from offshore. From June 13 to 14, 2024 the Vibration of Wind Turbines Symposium is taking place in Hamburg. The insightful program is covering a broad range of issues, but especially focuses on innovative solutions and practices to further enhance the reliability, robustness and efficiency of wind energy systems. 💡 We are happy to announce that Alexander Kari, Business Development Manager, will be on site, discussing the simulation and analysis of dynamic behavior. Under the motto ‘Today's Solutions Generating a Greener Tomorrow’, our #PGSEurope2024 welcomed over 500 participants from 55 countries, including customers, distributors, service providers, business partners, journalists and employees in Augsburg, Bavaria. Many internal and external experts presented and discussed innovative solutions for the energy industry at various events, including presentations, a dedicated product exhibition, break-out sessions and a panel discussion.   Tobias Ostermaier, our Head of the Stationary business unit, said after the symposium: ‘For me, it is absolutely unique to see the dynamism and passion that is created when we manage to combine our product portfolio with the specific knowledge and skills of our partners’. Our Augsburg site opened its doors to the production facility and test benches for the first evening event. A particular highlight there was the first 100% hydrogen engine. Andreas Görtz, our Head of the Sustainable and Mobile Power Solutions business units, summarised: ‘The clarity of the strategic direction, the investment in our product platform and the intelligent linking of our product range were emphasized by our partners and customers at the event. For me, this symposium contributes significantly to customer loyalty but also to the vitalisation of our partner network”. The Powergen sector generated around 39 per cent of Power Systems' sales in 2023. RWE SECURES HVDC SYSTEMS FOR FUTURE OFFSHORE WIND FARMS Offshore wind developer RWE has signed long-term framework agreements with Hitachi Energy and Aibel to secure three high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems for its upcoming offshore wind projects. The agreements allow RWE to reserve engineering and manufacturing capacity years in advance for the vital HVDC systems needed to transmit electricity from its offshore wind farms to the onshore grid. Hitachi will supply the converter systems, while Aibel will construct the offshore platform hosting the HVDC technology. RWE CEO Sven Utermöhlen highlighted the importance of securing this transmission infrastructure early given supply chain challenges. "This type of agreement is exactly what we need to succeed in driving the expansion of offshore wind globally." The HVDC systems are designated for RWE's offshore wind pipeline projects set to connect to the grid in the early 2030s. ➡ The long awaited Draft law to accelerate approval procedures for #geothermalplants, #heatpumps and #heatstorage-systems and to amend further legal framework conditions for the climate-neutral expansion of the heat supply ("GeoWG"), has been published now in Germany. We will review it in detail and keep you posted. The aim of the draft GeoWG law is to remove legal obstacles to the development of #geothermal energy and the expansion of heat pumps and heat storage facilities. The amendments relate to the various permits that are required for the construction of plants. This concerns both deep geothermal energy (from 400 metres underground) and near-surface geothermal energy (up to 400 metres). The draft bill is an article law and provides for amendments to mining law (#Bundesberggesetz), water law (#Wasserhaushaltsgesetz) and nature conservation law (#Bundesnaturschutzgesetz) in addition to general rules (incl. regulation on overriding public interest, cancellation of suspensive effect, shortening of legal channels, etc.). The draft law is also intended to implement the deadlines of the amended Renewable Energy Directive (#REDIII). This is a very good day for #Geothermalplants and the #energytransition in Germany!
