Wind energy and Bavaria go hand in hand

05.05.2023

Steel not only has a high recycling rate, but is also an important material for the implementation of the energy transition. All the better if it is regionally available and comes from a steel mill that has long since embarked on the path of decarbonization with its production process.

Wind energy is inconceivable without steel. Even though we are in Bavaria is known to be lagging somewhat behind with the expansion of wind energy, we are reliable with regard to the provision of the necessary Steel. The steel for wind energy comes regionally from Bavaria – that's sustainability.

LSV Lech-Stahl Veredelung supplies the raw material for Fasteners and fasteners in wind turbines from well-known manufacturers. As a subsidiary of the only steel mill in Bavaria, Lech-Stahlwerke LSV uses low-carb steel from Bavaria – called LOCAS for short – directly. Lech-Stahlwerke has been producing 100% steel for 50 years recycled scrap. A large part of the production in the electric arc furnace Stahls is sold in Germany and processed regionally in Bavaria. LOCAS thus stands for steel from this cycle, which the group of companies which makes Lech-Stahlwerke the largest recycling company in Bavaria.

The LSV Lech-Stahl refinement uses the advantages of the Group of companies through the direct purchase of steel from the parent company. This benefits manufacturers of components for wind turbines, such as for example, screws, anchor systems for foundations or threaded bolts for the rotor connection as well as tower segment connection.

In particular, applications in the offshore sector require a Steel material that meets the highest demands. That is why the LSV with a TPG certification in the field of heat treatment proves that the Steel is essential for the service life of the components of a wind turbine can contribute.
