Onshore industry demonstrates performance at Husum trade fair

03.08.2023

The onshore wind market in Germany is developing dynamically in 2023. At HUSUM WIND, the industry will be demonstrating what it can do to achieve the national expansion targets. The onshore trend topics of the trade fair also include repowering, recycling and the marketing of old turbines.

According to the recently published half-year figures and the balance sheet on wind expansion by the German Wind Energy Association (BWE) and VDMA Power Systems, the wind energy market recorded significant growth in the summer of 2023, especially for onshore wind with a gross increase of 1,565 MW of installed capacity. The upward trend is even more evident in the 3,175 MW of newly approved projects. What the industry can do to cope with the expansion path for onshore wind of 10 GW per year from 2025 onwards will be demonstrated by exhibitors from Germany and abroad from 12 to 15 September at HUSUM WIND, the biennial exhibition of the wind industry.

In addition to new projects, the industry in Germany is focusing on repowering to accelerate the energy transition and achieve expansion targets. By 2025, around 8,000 plants will no longer be eligible for funding. At HUSUM WIND, companies will present the entire range of second-life solutions for wind turbines, from repowering and recycling to marketing models such as PPAs and trading on the international used turbine market.

Bärbel Heidebroek, President of the German Wind Energy Association BWE e.V., states: "Wind energy will play a central role in the energy supply in Germany. The ambitious expansion targets underline this. If the area is expanded, approval processes gain speed and transport issues are solved pragmatically, the goals will be achievable. The industry has the necessary technologies at its disposal, and we are delighted that Federal Minister Robert Habeck is opening Husum Wind."

Dennis Rendschmidt, Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems, emphasizes: "The growth in the wind energy industry is encouraging. The trade fair is an important forum for exhibitors and trade visitors to benefit from these positive developments in the German market and to make the technological performance of manufacturers and suppliers visible. The industry is ready to implement the transformation of the energy system - it is important that the political and regulatory framework conditions are right."

The positive market dynamics are also intensifying competition in the job market and thus the shortage of skilled workers. The WINDCareer job fair on 15 September is a special platform of HUSUM WIND for recruitment and career topics. Companies can present their job offers there and address potential applicants directly.
