Functionality

The High Torque series combines the well-known properties of permanent magnet brakes. Further advantages are a higher torque with the same size and power consumption and a high constancy of the torque over the entire service life, as well as an extended temperature range.

Mode of action
The high torque brake is a component for dry running, in which the force effect of a permanent magnetic field is used to generate the braking effect. To cancel out the braking effect, the permanent magnetic field is superimposed by an electromagnetic counter-field (electromagnetically opening system). The backlash-free connection of the armature with the flange hub of the brake ensures a backlash-free transmission of the braking torque to the shaft of the machine (e.g. motor) and a safe residual torque-free release of the high torque brake, which makes the brake particularly suitable for installation in servo motors.

Construction
Between the housing and the flange of the high torque brake is the permanently installed excitation winding, whose connecting wires are led out at the defined strand output of the brake. The permanent magnets axially arranged between the housing and the flange generate the magnetic field, which is used to build up the braking effect. The armature is connected to the flange hub via segment springs and the fastening rivets in an axially movable, torsionally stiff and friction-free manner. As a result, residual torque freedom is achieved in horizontal and vertical rotation. The fresh air gap between the armature and the housing of the high torque brake is automatically adjusted (e.g. via installation tolerances) when the brake is mounted. The flange hub is torsionally rigid and axially firmly connected to the shaft of the machine. Under the influence of the permanent magnetic field, the armature is force-locked against the housing and flange. The resulting frictional force generates the braking torque. When a DC voltage is applied to the excitation winding of the high torque brake, the force effect of the permanent magnetic field on the armature is cancelled out as a result of the electromagnetic counter-field and the brake is released by spring force. The shaft to be braked does not experience any axial force except for the low axial force of the segment springs.
