Press release: EnBW and Light:Guard sign framework agreement for ADLS for new plants

Light:Guard GmbH and EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG have concluded a framework agreement for the supply of ADL. This includes the equipping of the new plants operated by EnBW with demand-controlled night marking (BNK).

Demand-driven or demand-based night marking (BNK) reduces the flashing of wind turbines to a minimum. To do this, the system monitors the airspace around a wind farm. If a flying object approaches, it cancels the suppression of the lighting and the red light flashes as before. Since the beginning of the year, the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) has prescribed the use of ADLS on wind turbines.

EnBW operates wind turbines with a total capacity of around 654 megawatts at over 50 locations in Germany. The wind turbines have already been equipped with an ADLS system in accordance with the legal regulations. Now, new wind farms to be built in the coming years must already have a functioning ADLS when they are commissioned.

"Climate neutrality is an important matter for us. Demand-driven night marking reduces light pollution and contributes to the acceptance of wind power expansion," explains Marko Mileticki, project coordinator in purchasing for the wind energy sector at EnBW. "With Light:Guard, we have therefore chosen a competent partner. The quality of the system and the possibility of installation before the turbines were installed were the deciding factors."

Under the terms of the agreement, Light:Guard will exclusively equip EnBW's agreed portfolio with the light:guard system for demand-controlled night marking. This also applies to affiliated companies of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. The contract is thus an extension of the existing cooperation for existing systems that existed with Light:Guard's sister company Quantec Sensors. More than 200 existing systems have already been darkened with the light:guard system in the course of this cooperation.
