Nordex and Light:Guard jointly offer demand-driven night marking for new parks

11.09.2025

The Nordex Group and Light:Guard are jointly equipping new Nordex wind farms with the light:guard system for demand-controlled night marking. Wind farm project developers can now order this system when they place an order with Nordex.

The Nordex Group and Light:Guard are entering into a cooperation. The core of the partnership is to equip new Nordex wind farms to be built in Germany with the light:guard system for demand-controlled night marking, or BNK for short. Wind farm project developers can now order this system when ordering wind turbines from Nordex, so that it is integrated into the turbines ex works.

Needs-based night marking reduces the red flashing of wind turbine lights at night to a minimum. To do this, the system monitors the airspace around a wind farm. Only when a flying object approaches, the suppression of the lighting is lifted. Since 1 January 2025, the use of ADLS on wind turbines has been prescribed by the EEG.

The Nordex Group's cooperation with Light:Guard will make it easier for wind farm planners and operators to efficiently meet these legal obligations. When purchasing the turbines, the BNK system can simply be booked as an option from Nordex, similar to a bat module or ice detection, for example. This also ensures installation well before the wind farm is put into operation and later installation is no longer necessary.

"Germany is one of the countries with the strictest requirements for wind turbines, especially with regard to their environmental compatibility during operation. The most efficient way to meet the legal requirements for ADLS is to equip wind turbines with an ADLS system at the time of installation," explains Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Central at Nordex.

By integrating the "BNK ex works" option, many processes can be simplified. Systems no longer have to be installed on the construction site in a plant-specific manner during the construction process. Integration into the nacelle also reduces the number of components. As a result, wind farm operators have considerably less effort in the form of contracts and coordination.

"BNK technology has undergone a significant maturation process in recent years," says Claudia Flörke, Senior Sales Manager at Light:Guard. "We are now concentrating on further standardizing standards, continuously improving quality and integrating our technology even better into the IT systems of the plant manufacturers. We have been working with Nordex in the field of ADLS for five years. We are now looking forward to extending this partnership to new plants."
