KTR has been active in the wind power industry for over 25 years and is the world market leader in the field of power transmission in wind turbines. With clutches and torque limiters as well as braking and cooling systems, tailor-made systems are waiting to be used in wind turbines in the multi-megawatt ××××××××× early as 1988, KTR designed the first coupling for use in the wind power industry. With the RADEX-N® steel multi-plate coupling, we have had a coupling system on the market for over 15 years that was specially designed for use in wind turbines and has been continuously developed ever since. In the meantime, more than 70,000 KTR couplings are in use worldwide in wind turbines with nominal outputs of up to 8 megawatts, and thousands more are added every year. Our high-performance brake systems are used on the rotor and nacelle. We have three different applications available for this purpose: rotor brakes, yaw brakes and rotor lock. The systems are developed and built in both hydraulic and electromechanical design. The large cooling units from our company are equipped with electric motors, fans and bypass systems. The cooling elements are made of weight-saving aluminium, the fan cover and frame are made of robust stainless steel. Despite their high performance, all refrigeration units remain extremely compact. For use in offshore installations, the cooling systems and motors are provided with a special coating suitable for offshore use to protect them from the salty and aggressive air.
